Our Board

Hardie Grant is an independent business with a board made up of the founders and founding investors, Associated Media Investments (AMI).


John Gerahty

A key shareholder and Chairman of AMI, John has nearly 50 years experience in merchant banking and commerce. An Executive Director of Schroders from 1971, then Hill Samuel from 1978, John became a non-executive director of Macquarie Bank from 1985 until 1993. In addition John has been a director of a number of public companies, a trustee of the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust, and a director of the Sydney Swans and the NSW Cricket Board. John has been Hardie Grant’s Chair from inception.


Sandy Grant

Co-founder of Hardie Grant, Sandy has a distinguished career in book publishing and media. He was formerly MD of Heinemann, Octopus and Reed Australia, and CEO of Reed Books UK. In addition to his key strategic role guiding Hardie Grant, Sandy has always been actively involved in the industry, including as a former director of Meanjin, the Australian Republican Movement, Chair of the Melbourne Writers Festival, member of the UNESCO City of Literature Bid Committee, President of the Australian Publishers Association, and Chair of the Copyright Agency. 


Fiona Hardie

Co-founder of Hardie Grant, Fiona has had a wide career in book and magazine publishing in Australia and the UK, including roles at Penguin, Text and Cedar. In addition to her role at Hardie Grant Media, Fiona is also Vice President of the AIER (Australian Institute of Employment Rights) and oversees culture and workplace rights across the Hardie Grant business.


David Fitzsimons

David is a founding shareholder and director of AMI. From New Zealand, he joined the Corporate Advisory Division of Hill Samuel in Australia in 1981. David became an executive director of listed investment company AFP Group Limited in 1986 and in the early 1990s he moved to Europe to manage AFP’s investment in Gestetner plc. David is based in London where he is involved with a range of private investments in industries including fund management, publishing and retail.


Rob Gamble

Rob is a shareholder and director of AMI. An executive in Australian media for over 30 years, Rob is currently Chief Executive of Go Transit Media Group, Australia’s largest transit media operator, and a director of advertising agency, Queensland Advertising. Rob’s previous positions include Chief Executive of DMG Regional Radio Group and Group Sales Manager for Nine Network Australia.
