Hardie Grant Publishing is looking for a person who is Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to join the editorial team that produces some of Australia’s best books, in a range of subject areas from children’s picture books to adult fiction, travel and non-fiction, including a sizeable range of books by Indigenous authors and illustrators.
You will be trained on the job, as part of a training program that will develop your skills as a Book Editor. The role is a permanent full-time position; it continues beyond the training period.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about words, ideas, issues, storytelling, and communicating. Strong literacy skills are essential. Other required characteristics include: strong project management and communication skills, and attention to detail. You should have a basic understanding of what publishing and editing entails, although you will be trained in the detail.
We are expecting applications from degree and post-graduate degree holders, but will also consider strong candidates who don’t have these qualifications or are still studying. Eligible applicants are persons of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and who are accepted by their community as being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
Hardie Grant Publishing is the book publishing division of Hardie Grant, a global publishing and media business headquartered in Melbourne. The role is based in Richmond. Hardie Grant has an accredited Reconciliation Action Plan, and a commitment to promoting Indigenous issues and employment. The Trainee Editor will have access to a First Nations mentor in the first 2 years of the role.
