About us

Hardie Grant Publishing is a creative global publisher of quality, stylish, cutting-edge books, and is a multiple award-winning publisher with a thriving backlist.

The Role

Hardie Grant Books is also searching for a creative talent with the vision for award winning book design, someone who can lead from the front, be inspired and inspire others through the creative process. The ideal candidate will bring a mix of artistic and technical knowledge and have a keen eye for designs that will connect with our customers. This is your opportunity to step up, flex your creativity and be part of an award-winning publishing company.

Primarily, this is a collaborative position, not a traditional hands-on design role, you will be overseeing the creative direction by working with Publishers and Editors to set the design briefs, attend photoshoots and then manage the creative process from start to finish.

Requirements

  • High proficiency in the MAC Adobe Creative Suite, Indesign, Photoshop, Bridge, Acrobat
  • An eye for fonts and typography
  • Have experience attending (ideally food-based) photo shoots and working with stylists and photographers
  • Working knowledge of MS Word & Excel
  • A clear understanding of 4c print and production as it relates to the book industry
  • Possess strong file management, be detail oriented and highly organised

An eye for design is key, but you also need to have a high level of technical ability to not only check that files from external suppliers are setup correctly, but also to check and ensure that the final files going to prepress meet all the requirements for the project.

Our ideal candidate will be a highly motivated creative team player who wants to be part of a collaborative publishing group. So, if you’re someone who sees a poorly designed book and cringes, dreams about fonts, colour swatches and understands the importance of great design, then we want to hear from you.
