During his career as an illustrator and stained-glass artist, Harry Clarke (Irish, 1889–1931) brought to life many characters of classic literature. His stylized figures, jewel tones, and precise patterns were wrought in minute detail and delicate line, an interpretation of the Art Nouveau style. This calendar features a selection of twelve Clarke illustrations published in three beloved early twentieth-century books: Fairy Tales by Hans Christian Andersen, The Fairy Tales of Charles Perrault, and The Year’s at the Spring: An Anthology of Recent Poetry compiled by Lettice D’Oyly Walters.
